Yesterday’s water demand was 473 million litres, which is down slightly from 475 million litres yesterday. We are trending in the right direction to keep our treated water consumption down, as we continue making urgent repairs to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main.
Many Calgarians are returning from a long weekend away and high temperatures are in the forecast this week. We remain under Stage 4 Outdoor Water Restrictions. If you have not already done so, please turn off outdoor automatic sprinkler systems. Many of the 311 calls we are receiving about residential and business watering are related to automatic sprinkler systems still in use.
As of this morning, we have received 576 reports of water misuse this week, up from 398 reports yesterday. This includes 427 at homes and multi-family buildings, up from 275 previously and 88 at businesses, up from 67.
Bylaw officers are continuing work through the weekend to follow up on these complaints and issue tickets where required.
The fine for outdoor water use during Stage 4 Restrictions is $3,000.
Construction progress
Construction remains on schedule to be completed by Sept. 23. Crews made great progress on repairs this weekend by working 24 hours a day on sites along 33rd Avenue N.W. and Shouldice Park.
At sites 1 through 4 along 33rd Avenue N.W. and at Shouldice Park, construction activities are underway on all 12 pipe repair segments. We have now excavated more than half of the pipe segments that need to be repaired.
Today marks an important milestone as the crews will pour concrete around the first pipe segment to be repaired.
Installation of rebar is progressing as per schedule and in the coming days more pipe segments will have concrete poured around them.
Crews will begin installing fencing around Site 5 later today, and excavation will begin tomorrow.
Construction on 16th Avenue N.W. will begin on Thursday, Sept. 5.
16 Avenue will be closed from 46 Street to the Bowness Road interchange on Thursday, Sept. 5, with traffic being detoured onto Bowness Road.
Bowness Road will be fully open in both directions with direct access to 16th Avenue and businesses.
There is a traffic plan that will keep most business driveways open, allow for parking, and provide clear direction to help customers find their way. Free short-term parking is available throughout the community.
