Vaughan wins award for stormwater infrastructure project

The City of Vaughan’s Infrastructure Delivery department has been recognized by the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA) for its award-winning work to improve stormwater management infrastructure in Gallanough Park.

Extensive improvements were completed in Gallanough Park to revitalize the playground, improve drainage and help mitigate flooding. This included constructing a new underground stormwater management facility in the park, building a storm relief sewer on Arnold Avenue, and installing an overland stormwater relief path at Tanjo Court and Springfield Way. Together, these improvements help alleviate flooding adjacent to and north of the park during heavy rainfall events.

“By combining critical infrastructure improvements with meaningful community enhancements, the City’s Infrastructure Delivery team has delivered a project that will benefit residents for generations. Thank you to the team for your commitment to delivering Service Excellence for residents, and congratulations on earning this prestigious award,” said Zoran Postic, City Manager.

The OPWA is a nonprofit professional organization that serves professionals involved in public works – such as transportation, water systems, emergency management, parks, engineering, and city infrastructure. It includes members from local, provincial and federal agencies, as well as private-sector companies that support public works.

“The work at Gallanough Park was extensive and vital to ensure the neighbourhood remained safe and enjoyable. Now, during heavy rainfall, residents can rest assured effective and efficient flooding mitigation processes are in place with new and improved stormwater management infrastructure,” said Vince Musacchio, Deputy City Manager, Planning and Infrastructure Development. “Thank you to the team for their hard work in revitalizing Gallanough Park, and congratulations on this well-deserved award.”
