Work has begun on the Speaker’s Corner drainage renewal project in Regina, SK.
The project addresses damage that occurred in 2023 when one of Regina’s primary stormwater drains along the Albert Memorial Bridge collapsed, requiring a temporary stormwater management system adjacent to Speaker’s Corner in Wascana Centre, a City of Regina release said.
“A city that invests in its infrastructure invests in its future. Speaker’s Corner Drainage Renewal Project will play a key role in strengthening Regina’s stormwater network for years to come,” City of Regina director of water, waste and environment Carolyn Kalim said.
The design will ensure stormwater flows away from homes, businesses and roadways, directing water into Wascana Creek and reducing the risk of flooding and supporting continued growth in Regina, the release said.
Listed project outcomes on the City of Regina project page include reinstating permanent storm drain infrastructure, installing a new storm water outfall, pavement of a section of Hamilton Street south of College Avenue and landscaping.
Once the project is complete it will provide stormwater drainage throughout the downtown and surrounding area. Work will impact the Albert Street and 19th Avenue intersection as well as areas within Wascana Centre.
Substantial completion of the project is estimated to be during the 2026 construction season.
