The Ontario government is investing $3.2 million to advance priority stormwater upgrades in the City of Oshawa.
The funding, secured through the Ontario government’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program – Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS) , will support planned development in the Kedron Part II Planning Area which includes approximately 1,800 new homes, a City of Oshawa release said.
“This investment positions the great City of Oshawa for its next stage of growth. With the province’s support, we can advance essential infrastructure that strengthens our community and prepares us for the homes, jobs and opportunities on the horizon. We thank the Ontario government for this MHIP-HSWS funding and for their continued commitment to the great City of Oshawa,” Oshawa mayor Dan Carter said.
New storm sewer and catch basin improvements and a new culvert at a tributary of East Oshawa Creek will improve drainage, reduce flooding risks and better support growing neighbourhoods, the release said.
To date, the provincial government has contributed over $44 million to protect Durham Region’s water systems, including the Oshawa Water Supply Plant, the release added.
