The CSA Group’s Explore Research Program launched a call for proposals on March 31 focused on protecting Canada’s freshwater.
“While Canada is rich in freshwater resources, this abundance should not be taken for granted. A shifting climate, aging infrastructure, growing industrial demands, governance challenges, and inequities are converging and accelerating to create new risks,” CSA Group president of research and education Jennifer Teague said in a Linkedin post on April 8.
The call for proposals focuses on “merging freshwater issues that examine vulnerabilities and solutions across ecosystems, infrastructure, technology, governance, and community priorities,” she said.
Potential topics for research proposals include ecological resilience, technological opportunities and risks, governance and the economics of water management and societal access, uses and perceptions.
To be eligible proposals must directly address one of the listed topics and the principal investigator and co-applicants must be based at a Canadian publicly funded academic institution, not-for-profit and/or public research organization, according to the CSA Group’s information page. Full details on project eligibility is available in CSA’s application guide and applications must be completed through the CSA online application portal.
Funding is up to C$150,000 for a two-year project.
The application deadline is June 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. PT with the notice of award in mid-August. Research would start in mid-September 2026.
