About The Project
THE WELLAND Water Treatment Plant (WTP) supplies potable water to Welland, Pelham, and parts of Thorold. Originally built in 1910, it has undergone multiple upgrades to improve capacity and effciency. The plant sources water from Lake Erie via the Welland Canal and has a total capacity of 102.3 million litres per day, serving around 50,000 residents.
Recent upgrades include a new reservoir, UV/High Lift Pump Station, substation, and standby generator to enhance reliability. A new transmission main and water/sewer main replacement
project is set for April–December 2025. These improvements ensure a sustainable and high-quality water supply for the region.
