South Glengarry raises bowl on new Glen Walter water tower

Township officials in South Glengarry gathered Thursday morning to watch the bowl of a new water tower lifted into place in Glen Walter, marking a major milestone in a project years in the making.

The Glen Walter Water Tower Project began in 2021 after the township secured funding through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure – Green Stream program. The project includes the construction of an elevated storage tank designed to address health and safety needs while expanding access to safe, reliable drinking water.

Landmark Structures Co. was awarded the construction contract in 2024 with a bid of just under $7.8 million. Federal and provincial governments are covering nearly $3.65 million of the cost, with the balance coming from township water reserves, financing and potential future grants.

“Today marks an important milestone for our community,” said Mayor Lachlan McDonald. “This project represents more than just critical infrastructure, it’s an investment in the future of our residents, our businesses, and our growing community.”

General Manager of Infrastructure Services Sarah McDonald, who coordinated the project, called the bowl raising a “major milestone visual reminder of the progress being made in Glen Walter.”

The township says the tower reflects its ongoing commitment to investing in critical infrastructure for long-term community growth.
