Canadian Water Network (CWN) is inviting municipal water utilities across Canada to join its new Communities of Practice streams, launching this September as part of the organization’s Net Zero Water project.
The initiative is designed to help utilities at different stages of their greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction journey. Over the course of two years—running from September 2025 to January 2027—participants will connect with peers, technical experts, and solution providers to share best practices and advance toward net-zero operations.
Two tailored streams are available:
-
Exploration Topics – for utilities beginning to address emissions, with a focus on building a GHG inventory and exploring opportunities in renewables, energy efficiency, and fugitive emissions reduction.
-
Advancing Topics – for utilities with a GHG inventory already in place, offering deeper dives into resource recovery, embodied emissions, biosolids management, biogas, and cutting-edge strategies for water and energy efficiency.
According to CWN, the Communities of Practice will help utilities reduce emissions while maintaining service excellence, improving efficiency, and delivering value to their communities. The program also aims to build internal capacity and provide practical tools for achieving climate goals.
The Net Zero Water project is funded by the Government of Canada through its Implementation Readiness Fund.
