City of Owen Sound in Ontario will spend the spring and summer carrying out inspections of sanitary sewer infrastructure alongside its annual fire hydrant and inspection program.
As part of the work, the city has retained Rapid Assessment Technology Services Inc., a City of Owen Sound release said, to inspect sanitary sewer mains using rapid acoustic technology.
“This non-invasive approach allows crews to assess pipe conditions quickly and accurately, identifying potential concerns such as blockages or structural weaknesses without disrupting service to residents,” the release said.
The work is scheduled to begin May 4 and the city will also begin its annual fire hydrant flushing and inspection program at the same time.
The work is completed by zone, and by the end of this process, every hydrant in Owen Sound will be flushed, with flushing starting in areas closest to the Water Treatment Plant and gradually move outward across the system.
Owen Sound’s water system includes approximately 684 fire hydrants, the release added, and has 118 kilometres of wastewater pipes. Approximately 12 million litres of wastewater are treated in Owen Sound per day.
