Moose Jaw breaks ground on landmark Crescent View Headworks Facility

The City of Moose Jaw officially broke ground on the new Crescent View Headworks Facility, marking the start of the single largest infrastructure project in the city’s history.

The new facility will replace the existing Crescent View Lift Station, which has served Moose Jaw since 1961 and serves as the first stop in the City’s wastewater treatment system.

“Moose Javians may never see this facility, but they will benefit from it every day,” said Mayor James Murdock. “The Crescent View Headworks Facility will replace aging infrastructure, help protect residents and property from future risks, and ensure we are prepared for growth for decades to come.”

The Crescent View Lift Station receives wastewater from homes and businesses across Moose Jaw and removes debris, sand, grit, and other materials before the wastewater continues to the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant for further treatment. The new Headworks Station will modernize this critical piece of infrastructure, increasing system reliability, reducing the risk of sewer backups and flooding during major storm events, and providing capacity to support future residential, commercial, and industrial growth.

City Council has approved construction of the facility, and the $73 million project is funded primarily by the City of Moose Jaw, with more than $9.7 million in support coming through the Government of Canada’s Build Communities Strong Fund Community stream, administered by the Province of Saskatchewan.

“Reliable infrastructure is essential to building strong, growing communities,” said the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State (Rural Development). “The Crescent View Headworks Facility will help Moose Jaw meet the needs of its growing population while strengthening the reliability and resilience of its wastewater system.”

Construction is expected to continue through 2029.
