The Region of Waterloo has appointed internationally recognized expert Kenneth Brothers on an interim basis as its new commissioner of water services and wastewater operations.
Brothers will work with he development industry, area municipalities, and the province to accelerate work to build operational resiliency and add new water capacity, a Region of Waterloo release said, including repairs, maintenance and major infrastructure investments.
“We are pleased to welcome Kenneth Brothers to the Region of Waterloo. His expertise and proven track record in the water sector will be essential as we work through this challenge in partnership with community stakeholders. Together, we will continue to design solutions and build a stronger water system for residents today and for the future,” Region of Waterloo acting chief administrative officer Mathieu Goetzke said.
Brothers is a Fellow of the International Water Association, an international speaker, a professional engineer, and an expert in best practices in water utility management, the release said.
He was also the chair of the Regional Public Works Association of Ontario (RPWCO) and has held leadership positions in municipalities across Ontario.
“I look forward to joining the Region of Waterloo as we navigate through this pivotal moment in water management with the challenging work ahead. I am deeply committed to working alongside partners and the community to shape solutions that strengthen the community for the long term water sustainability in the Region,” Brothers said.
Brothers will join the Region of Waterloo on Feb. 23.
