Fredericton-based LuminUltra has acquired GL Biocontrol, a microbial testing company in France, strengthening its position in Europe’s water diagnostics market.
GL Biocontrol works with more than 500 municipalities and industrial operators across Europe. The company has played a leading role in advancing microbial monitoring in France, particularly through the adoption of 2nd Generation ATP testing, which provides rapid data on microbial threats in drinking water, industrial systems and water reuse applications.

GL Biocontrol shares that mission deeply,” said Pat Whalen, LuminUltra’s president and CEO. “France has long been at the forefront of water technology and microbiological innovation, and this acquisition brings together two science-led organizations committed to advancing that leadership.”
GL Biocontrol will continue operating under its current name but gain access to LuminUltra’s portfolio of technologies and scientific support. Its services combine microbial diagnostics with consulting, training and software to help utilities and industries implement water safety strategies.

The acquisition marks LuminUltra’s eighth in eight years. France will now serve as the company’s European headquarters, providing a base for further growth in the region.
Founded in 1995, LuminUltra provides testing technologies and services for industries including food, energy and water. The company operates in more than 80 countries and is backed by Canadian investment firm XPV Water Partners.
