2026 Downstream OWWA

In partnership with

On May 6, Water Canada hosted its latest Downstream event in partnership with the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA) as part of Ontario’s Water Conference & Trade Show, NextWave.

Designed to connect established industry leaders with students and emerging professionals, Downstream continues to create meaningful conversations around mentorship, workforce development, and the future of Canada’s water sector.

The event brought together seasoned experts eager to share practical knowledge and career insights with the next generation of water professionals — many of whom are looking for guidance as they begin navigating the industry. The result was an atmosphere defined by optimism, collaboration, and a shared commitment to advancing clean water solutions for Canadians.

For experienced professionals, the event offered an opportunity to give back through direct mentorship and candid conversations about the realities of working in the sector. For students and young professionals, it provided a valuable roadmap from people who once wished they’d had similar support early in their careers.

With more than 1,400 attendees participating in this year’s NextWave conference in Niagara, the energy surrounding the event reflected a growing enthusiasm for the future of water in Canada.

Water Canada extended its thanks to OWWA for hosting Downstream and recognized the volunteer experts who helped make the event possible: Robert Haller, Emily Stahl, Emily Zegers, Nathan Morris, John Levie, Vincent LePlante, Anna Comerton, Kimberly Sayers, Brandon Beck, Elia Edwards, and Gluzen Ramos Ong.

Downstream is part of Water Canada’s ongoing event series focused on connecting current and future water professionals, bridging the industry skills gap, and supporting innovation in clean water solutions across the country.
