The City of Calgary is discussing the issue of fluoride in drinking water once again, now that three city councillors have motioned to re-open the discussion.

Although the city discontinued adding fluoride to Calgary’s drinking in 2011, A University of Calgary study released in February and found that fluoride cessation in Calgary had a negative impact on children’s dental health.

Council must decide whether direct consultations with the researchers on the findings of the study are necessary and whether to revisit the discussion on fluoridation for municipal water supplies.

If the motion is passed, a report making recommendations will be presented back to council in December.
