Edmonton-based Seair Inc. has sold six large industrial water treatment units to an oil sands facility for use in treating groundwater prior to mining. The water, which has not come in contact with the mining operation, can be pumped out and released to the environment as long as it meets all regulated quality standards and specified parameters of dissolved oxygen to support aquatic life.
This groundwater is low in dissolved oxygen and needs to be oxygenated prior to release. Seair’s diffusion equipment will be used to treat the water to meet specified parameters for Dissolved Oxygen (DO) and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). Field testing of the equipment determined that DO and BOD targets can be met using ambient air diffused into surficial water flowing from horizontal wells.
