Prince Edward County responds to Marsh Creek contamination incident

The County of Prince Edward County responded to a contamination event at Marsh Creek in Picton, ON on May 5.

Drinking water supplied by the Picton Water Treatment Plant remains safe for consumption and monitoring of the water supply will continue throughout the incident response, a Prince Edward County release said.

In a May 6 update the county identified the source of the contamination as a fuel spill near the intersection of Picton Main Street and Bowery Street. The fuel entered the stormwater system and flowed to Marsh Creek.

A clean up crew is on scene at Picton Main Street cleaning the spill and containment measures continue in the Marsh Creek area according to the update.

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) is currently investigating the cause of the spill, the release said, and anyone with information is asked to contact MECP by filing a report online or calling 1.866.663.8477.
