Parks Canada has announced that structural repairs will soon commence at the Elliot Falls Dam, located on the Gull River near Norland in Kawartha Lakes. The initiative is part of the ongoing effort to ensure the safety and reliability of water management infrastructure along the Trent-Severn Waterway system.

An inspection of the dam revealed deterioration in the concrete structure. Although the dam does not pose an immediate risk, proactive repairs will include a pier patching program and restoration of the channels that secure stop logs in place. Parks Canada confirmed that no adjustments to current water management practices will be necessary to complete the work.

The repair project is scheduled to run from November 2024 to February 2025, with a planned two-week pause over the Christmas holidays.

To ensure public safety, access across the Elliot Falls Dam will be closed during the project. Parks Canada is urging residents and visitors to respect posted signage and avoid restricted areas for their own safety.

The Elliot Falls Dam is one of many critical structures within the Trent-Severn Waterway, a national historic site and key water management system serving communities across Ontario. Maintenance of this infrastructure is vital for environmental stewardship, recreational access, and regional water regulation.
