The Osoyoos Times reports that councillors have given approval for TRUE Consulting, the Town’s engineering firm, to apply for a $6,190,000 grant to begin the construction of a twinning system for Osoyoos water districts 8 and 9.

Earlier this year, Interior Health recommended that a boil-water advisory be put in effect for the districts after concerns were raised that the current system does not provide adequate chlorine contact time to kill bacteria.

A twinning system for the area would provide treated, potable water for domestic use and lake water for irrigation purposes and is part of the Town’s yet-to-be-completed water master plan.

The firm will apply to the Building Canada Fund for the grant, which would cover the first phase of the system’s construction.
