Oneida Nation awards construction contract for water pipeline project

The Oneida Nation of the Thames has awarded a construction contract for a pipeline connection to Lake Huron’s water.

London, ON-based L82 Construction Limited was awarded the contract for the project which will extend the Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System (LHPWSS).

The Oneida Nation of the Thames entered into a water supply agreement with LHPWSSin 2023 for a connection and supply to the regional water system.

Construction of the off-settlement portion of the project being undertaken by the regional water system was awarded by the Board of Management for the Lake Huron Water Supply System at their March 5, 2026 meeting, City of London director of regional water supply Andrew Henry said.

Construction of the off-settlement water transmission pipeline is expected to reach completion by spring 2027, he said, and the Oneida Nation of the Thames is also completing upgrades to their water distribution system during this period.

The Oneida Nation of the Thames is located southwest of London, ON received funding from Indigenous Services Canada to address some longstanding issues related to drinking water, Henry added.

A boil water advisory has been in effect on the Oneida Public Water System since Sept. 2019 and became long term in Sept. 2020, the Oneida Nation of the Thames website stated.
