The federal government is investing up to $27.1 million through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund for the Rutland Trunk Sewer project to improve drainage infrastructure, while the City of Winnipeg is contributing approximately $42.2 million.
“Today’s investment in drainage infrastructure in Winnipeg will help reduce the risk of basement flooding, support sewer separation, and protect the Red River and Assiniboine River by reducing combined sewer overflows,” said Doug Eyolfson, MP for Winnipeg West.
The project will help build approximately 2.0 kilometres of land drainage trunk sewer within the Ferry Road combined sewer district.
“The Rutland Trunk Sewer project will strengthen Winnipeg’s drainage system, reduce the risk of basement flooding, and help protect our rivers,” said Scott Gillingam, Mayor of Winnipeg.
