Vancouver-based BioteQ Environmental Technologies, a company that specializes in the treatment of industrial wastewater, has received the Business Excellence Award for Outstanding Innovation and Best Practice from the Canada China Business Council. BioteQ entered the China market in 2006 through a joint venture with Jiangxi Copper Company, China’s largest copper producer.

Since that time, the joint venture has designed and built two water treatment plants at the Dexing mine, to recover dissolved copper from mine drainage and enhance the environmental performance of the mine site.

A third water treatment plant is currently under construction at the Dexing mine, to recover cobalt and nickel. The joint venture agreement identifies six potential sites where BioteQ’s clean technologies can be applied, and the joint venture partners are actively reviewing additional projects for future development.
