Aecon awarded contract for Niverville wastewater treatment facility

Aecon has announced it has been awarded a contract for the RSR Cooperative Wastewater Treatment Facility located in Niverville, Man.

The new facility will increase capacity while supporting reduction of CO2 emissions and once complete will serve more than 30,000 residents with the capacity to serve up to 70,000 people, an Aecon release said.

“Aecon’s strong industrial and water infrastructure capabilities will drive the safe delivery of this sustainable project. We are excited to work alongside our valued client, harnessing our diverse self-perform expertise,” Aecon Group Inc. senior vice-president John Singleton said.

The project will enhance wastewater infrastructure in the municipalities of Niverville, Taché, Hanover, Ritchot, La Broquerie and De Salaberry, the Aecon release said.

The oversight board for the project is the Red-Seine-Rat Wastewater Cooperative (RSRWC) Ltd., comprised of leadership from each participating municipality an article in the Niverville Citizen reported.

The contract covers the first phase of the project, the Citizen said, which includes the plant. Further work involves addition of approximately 90 kilometres of effluent pipeline and new lift and pump stations.

The Canadian Infrastructure Bank invested a combined $140 million commitment to the City of Brandon and the RSRWC in March 2024 to support water and wastewater projects in Manitoba.
