Ontario directs $8.4M to Milton for housing-linked water and infrastructure projects

The Ontario government is providing Milton with $8.4 million through its Building Faster Fund, with the money earmarked to support infrastructure projects such as stormwater management and road rehabilitation that enable new housing development.

Milton exceeded its 2024 housing target by breaking ground on 2,260 new homes—nearly 130 per cent of its 2024 housing target. As a result, the municipality qualified for the second round of funding from the $1.2-billion, three-year program that rewards communities making progress toward housing targets.

Mayor Gord Krantz said the funding will support “critical infrastructure, such as stormwater management, road rehabilitation and active transportation routes that directly support housing throughout our growing community.”

The Building Faster Fund is part of Ontario’s broader plan to accelerate housing construction by streamlining approvals while ensuring municipalities can expand water, wastewater and flood protection systems to accommodate growth. Across Halton Region, the province is investing nearly $35 million through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program to enable more than 29,000 new homes, including $10.5 million for Milton.

Associate municipal affairs and housing minister Graydon Smith said the funding demonstrates the province’s partnership with local governments to “get shovels in the ground” on both homes and the infrastructure needed to sustain them.
