About The Project
THE CHIPPEWAS of Nawash Unceded First Nation in Neyaashiinigmiing has been under a boil water advisory since 2019. To resolve this, a new water treatment plant and upgraded distribution system are being built with $61M in federal funding.
Project Highlights:
• New water treatment plant with a 300 m intake into Georgian Bay, modern treatment processes, and a below-ground reservoir.
• 14.5 km of new watermains and 275 new/replaced water services to reduce 60 to 70 per cent system losses.
• Construction began in late 2021, with completion expected by August
2023 and the advisory lifted by March 2025.
This project will provide safe, reliable drinking water and support the community’s future growth.
