About The Project
THE PROJECT involves creating a 110,000-cubic-metre raw water reserve, separate from the Beaudet reservoir. Water is pumped from the reservoir into this new reserve, which supplies the Hamel drinking water plant. When the water quality in the Beaudet reservoir declines, the supply is halted, allowing the plant to draw from the reserve until reservoir conditions improve.
The project also includes building permanent infrastructure to enable annual sediment dredging. A booster station was construct ed to transport the water and sediment mixture through a discharge line to a new sediment dewatering plant. This plant features a mechanized treatment system that separates sediment from water. The dried sediments are then trucked to an on-site storage area built as part of the project. Construction was completed in 2023, with commissioning scheduled to continue through 2025.
