The austere Economic Action Plan for 2012 aims to “enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations, programs, and services” as part of a plan to balance the budget and reduce debt. The first thing to go? Pennies. The federal government is putting a stop to wasteful penny production. But it will also dismantle the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRT), an entity that in recent years produced reports such as Charting a Course: Sustainable Water Use by Canada’s Natural Resource Sectors and Changing Currents: Water Sustainability and the Future of Canada’s Natural Resource Sectors. What do you think about this loss? How will it affect the water sector? As always, feel free to elaborate in the comments section below. We’d love to hear from you.
