Ontario Thunder Bay-Atikokan MPP Kevin Holland announced March 27 that province of Ontario will invest up to $21,859,076 for construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in the Township of Schreiber, ON.
The funding for the project is from the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS), a release from Holland’s office said.
“This investment reflects our government’s commitment to strengthening core infrastructure in communities like Schreiber. By supporting essential wastewater systems, we are helping protect public health, encourage responsible growth and create the right conditions for jobs and new housing. Reliable infrastructure is the foundation of strong communities, and we will continue to stand with municipalities as they plan for the future,” Holland said.
“This funding will support critical infrastructure and allow Schreiber to move ahead with its next chapter of growth and opportunity,” Township of Schreiber mayor Kevin Mullins added.
Since 2024, the government of Ontario has invested more than $102 million for infrastructure across communities in Thunder Bay-Superior North, the release said.
“Through our historic $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are giving municipalities and First Nations the tools they need to get shovels in the ground and build stronger communities. Our investments will deliver more homes, modernize aging water systems and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity across Ontario,” Ontario acting minister of infrastructure Todd McCarthy said.
