EPCOR Utilities Inc. (EPCOR) officially became the owner and operator of the Gold Bar Wastewater Treatment Plant today.
Edmonton City Council authorized the transfer of Gold Bar to EPCOR on January 21, 2009. The staff at Gold Bar (approx. 140 people) joins more than 600 other water professionals within EPCOR.
Vince Corkery, Director of Wastewater Operations, said the Gold Bar transfer brings Edmonton one step closer to achieving its vision of becoming a zero-discharge city. One day, the city would like to reusing all wastewater.
Gold Bar becomes an asset of EPCOR Water Services Inc., which is a major subsidiary of EPCOR. The City will continue to own Gold Bar through its ownership of EPCOR, and the City will continue to set rates. EPCOR is wholly-owned by the City of Edmonton, and paid the City a $130-million dividend for the 2008 fiscal year.
