The Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Minister of‎ Indigenous Affairs, has appointed Ms. Mavis Cli-Michaud as chair of the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board (MVLWB).

Cli-Michaud, whose appointment is for a period of three  years, was selected from a pool of highly qualified board nominees presented to the Minister.

Established under the Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act, the MVLWB is responsible for issuing land and water authorizations for transboundary applications involving settlement areas, as well as regions outside of settlement areas, and ensures consistent application of land and water management throughout the Mackenzie Valley.

Michael McLeod, MP for the Northwest Territories said, “I congratulate Ms. Cli-Michaud on her appointment as the Chair of the MVLWB. ‎Ms. Cli-Michaud has tremendous qualifications and will help the Board fulfill its important mandate. I wish her success in her new position.”

Rebecca Chouinard, executive director for the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board added, “We welcome the appointment of Mavis Cli-Michaud as Chair on the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board. Ms. Cli-Michaud has been serving on the Board since 2014. She has over 30 years of experience working for the federal government with a focus on communications, finance and human resource management, and socio-economic planning. We look forward to continuing to work with her in this new capacity.”

There are four land and water boards in the NWT.
