New chair at Yukon Water Board

The government of Yukon has appointed Brooke Rudolph as the chair of the Yukon Water Board.

Rudolph accepted the appointment as of Jan. 21.

“I am pleased to welcome Brooke Rudolph to the Yukon Water Board and grateful that she has accepted the role of chair. Her depth of experience will serve the board well as it advances several key licensing projects. I would also like to thank Russ Smoler for his service as acting chair over the past several months,” Yukon premier Currie Dixon said.

Rudolph previously served as the executive director of the Klondike Placer Miners’ Association and as the president of MBS Yukon, a local mining consulting firm, a Government of Yukon release said.

The chair of the Yukon Water Board is appointed by the premier and liaises with board members, facilitates board meetings and “provides important leadership to the board as they work through licensing decisions regarding the use of water and the deposit of waste,” the release said.

The board is composed of four to nine members and appointments are based on nominations provided by the government of Yukon (at least three members), the Council of Yukon First Nations (one third of members) and the Government of Canada.

Currently the other board members are vice-chairperson Russel Smoler and Sam Wallingham, both nominated by the government of Yukon, Bruce Warnsby, Carl Sidney and Wesley Barrett, all nominated by the Council of Yukon First Nations, and Anne Leckie, nominated but the government of Canada.

Two board seats are currently vacant according to the Yukon Water Board website.
