About The Project
THE KITCHENER Wastewater Treatment Plant has been undergoing significant upgrades since 2010 to enhance its efficiency and improve the quality of water discharged into the Grand River. A key component of these improvements includes the replacement of aging clarifier mechanisms.
The Fujiwara technology is a monorail-type sludge removal system that consists of a series of scraper blades attached to a tank floor rail system. The scraper blades push sludge to a hopper
located at the end of the primary clarifier tanks. On the return journey, the scraper blades rotate to minimize impact on sludge settling. Key advantages include low maintenance requirements, low profile to allow for future odour control, and the technology can be retrofitted into existing travelling bridge type primary clarifiers.
