Stantec has been selected by Peel Region to manage a water and wastewater infrastructure program that will support expanded water and wastewater infrastructure within the Town of Caledon, Ontario. The program will help to address housing shortages and create affordable housing for the local community.
Stantec will provide engineering services, program management, environmental assessment, design, and construction administration for all projects included in the program, which is expected to total more than 100 separate projects.
Peel Region has adopted a programmatic approach to project delivery in response to the Ontario government’s More Homes Built Faster Act, part of a long-term strategy to build more homes and improve housing affordability for Ontario families. The region’s population is expected to grow steadily. The program will include the delivery of key water and wastewater projects to meet Caledon’s provincial targets, as well as provide safe drinking water, efficient wastewater management, and accommodation for future infrastructure plans.
Responsible and sustainable growth
“This work resonates with me because of the transformational impact that a program of this magnitude can have on communities,” said Melissa Carter, program manager and vice president, Stantec. “Our multidisciplinary team is drawn to this opportunity to shape the future of Caledon, helping the Region to address water and wastewater infrastructure needs promptly, while also being responsible and sustainable.”
To meet the demands of this program, Stantec has strengthened its team by bringing on R.V. Anderson Associates Limited (RVA), which will provide delivery services for the design and construction phases. Stantec has also brought on GEI Canada (GEI) for the program. GEI will assist with developer project review, oversight, and coordination. The design phase of the program, which recently started, is scheduled to take three years, with construction to follow. Stantec’s program management has begun and will continue for a minimum of three years.
