Peel Region has begun updating its Water and Wastewater Master Plan to guide long-term infrastructure planning for its lake-based systems, with public consultation underway this December.
The update builds on the region’s 2020 plan and is intended to support existing servicing needs and forecast growth to 2051, while also preparing for accelerated development in Mississauga, Brampton and parts of Caledon. The revised plan is expected to be completed in 2026.
As part of the process, Peel hosted its first Public Information Centre (PIC) from Dec. 2 to 4, 2025. The in-person sessions were held within each local municipality and presented findings from the Master Plan Class Environmental Assessment (EA). A public feedback survey will remain open until Jan. 9, 2026.
According to the region, the master plan update will align with the latest Regional Official Plan population and employment forecasts to 2051, consider the impacts of Ontario’s Bill 23 on accelerated growth, and involve collaboration with local municipalities to identify priority growth areas, including major transit station areas. The study will also examine potential growth beyond 2051 for longer-term infrastructure planning.
The work follows the Municipal Engineers Association Class EA Master Planning Approach 1 and will satisfy Phases 1 and 2 of the Class EA process. This includes developing and evaluating alternative servicing strategies, routes and sites, while incorporating public and stakeholder input throughout the study.
The process will conclude with a Master Servicing Plan Report, which will be filed for public review as part of a formal 45-day review period expected to begin in winter 2026.
