National First Nations Water Leadership Award opens 2026 nominations

Nominations are now open for the 2026 National First Nations Water Leadership Award, an annual honour recognizing exceptional leadership in advancing clean and safe drinking water in First Nations communities.

The award highlights individuals, community leaders, and organizations that have shown outstanding commitment to improving water security, whether through emergency response, infrastructure work, innovation, or community-driven outreach. The winner will receive a trophy and a $500 art piece.

Eligible nominees include First Nations individuals, organizations, and communities that have contributed to better water outcomes by leading during drinking water emergencies, developing innovative approaches to water management, or advancing Indigenous-led education and outreach. Candidates may also be recognized for sharing knowledge through training or mentoring, or for building partnerships that support long-term water system improvements.

Nominations are open until February 28, 2026. Submissions can be made through an online form or by requesting a nomination package via email. More information on the award and last year’s nominees can be found on the National First Nations Water Leadership Award webpage.
