Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre announced Jan. 16 the outflow from the Shellmouth Reservoir
The Shellmouth Reservoir is a man-made reservoir on the Assiniboine River in Manitoba and Saskatchewan and is part of flood risk reduction strategy for communities along the Assiniboine River.
The outflow increase is a part of normal operations to draw down reservoir levels in preparation for spring run-off fro the river, a Manitoba government release said.
The current outflow is 300 cubic feet per second (cfs) and will be increased to 400 cfs.
The outflow increase will result in a half-foot increase in water levels on the Assiniboine River from Shellmouth to Brandon, the release said, and the increase will diminish as the river reaches Winnipeg.
The province will continue to monitor conditions on the upper Assiniboine River and downstream river levels, the release added.
