Inspiration and recognition flow at Blue Cities 2025

Water leaders from across Canada gathered at Blue Cities 2025 in Mississauga, ON on May 14th and 15th for an inspiring two days of dialogue, connection, and recognition. A highlight of the event was the launch of the first-ever Canadian Water Network (CWN) Awards, honouring individuals whose work is shaping the future of water in Canada.

Three outstanding professionals were recognized for their contributions:

  • Monica Bramley, from the City of Calgary, received the Rising Wave Award for her exceptional leadership and dedication as part of the next generation of water professionals. Her passion and forward-thinking approach are helping set new standards in the sector.

  • Lou Di Gironimo, General Manager of Toronto Water, was presented with the Blue Impact Award, acknowledging his decades of transformative leadership and commitment to improving municipal water systems.

  • Carl Yates, who will retire from the CWN Board this June, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. His long-standing contributions to collaboration and innovation in the sector have left an enduring legacy.

The CWN Awards represent a new tradition of celebrating excellence, vision, and commitment in Canada’s water community.
