The waste created by British Columbia’s accelerating mining boom at a time of increasingly extreme climate change-driven weather events is a growing threat to communities and watersheds throughout the province.
Join us to learn how the new interactive B.C. Mine Tailings Map can teach us about these threats, and what can be done about them.
The online map was developed by BC Mining Law Reform and SkeenaWild Conservation Trust to fill an important knowledge gap. It provides communities with critical information about the risks posed by billions of cubic metres of toxic liquid mine waste—called tailings—stored behind some of the highest dams in the world.
This webinar is co-hosted by BC Mining Law Reform and the POLIS Water Sustainability Project, based at the University of Victoria’s Centre for Global Studies, as part of POLIS’ ongoing Creating a Blue Dialogue webinar series.
